Things to check before you call

If your boiler system isn’t working, or you think it's not working properly, don’t panic. Before you call us, check these things and you might be able to resolve your problem quickly on your own:

  • Gas Supply: If you have natural gas, verify that your gas is on. If you have an LP gas, make sure you have fuel in your tank.
  • Check Your Thermostat: Make sure at least one of your thermostat is set to “On” and in the “Heat” mode, and the desired temperature is set higher than the current room temperature.
  • Check the Power:
    • Check your circuit breaker to ensure that you have not had a nuisance trip and your heat system does have power.
    • Check your boiler switch to make sure it is “On”. This is typically an older style toggle switch and may or may not have a Red cover plate.
  • Distribution System: Perhaps you have had a water leak on the distribution side of your boiler. You can try removing air from the system to get you going, but you should also consider the source of the air or water leak.
    • Is a section of your baseboard not heating? It may be air-bound. If you have radiator bleed valves try removing this excess air.
    • Is the water level in your boiler too low? There should be 12 - 15 psi on the heating side of your boiler. If there is not try adding water to your system through your system water feed valve.
